What is MARCoNS?

MARCoNS refers to a nasal infection caused by Multiple Antibiotic-resistant coagulase-negative Staphylococcus. This bacteria produces a sticky substance known as a biofilm, which helps it hide from your immune system. This infection is especially prevalent in cases of Lyme and Mold Illness (CIRS).

MARCoNS resides deep in the nasal passages of those suffering from Biotoxin Illness and other chronic inflammatory conditions, including CIRS (Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome) and CFIDS (Chronic Fatigue and Immune Dysfunction Syndrome). The prevalence increases when a person has been treated with antibiotics for a month or longer. Once established, MARCoNS can lower Melanocyte-Stimulating Hormone levels, increase cytokines, and reduce T-reg cells, leading to chronic fatigue symptoms such as body aches and debilitating exhaustion.

MARCoNS is typically considered a commensal colonization that can lead to infection. These bacteria release chemicals into the bloodstream (exotoxins A and B) that elevate inflammation, and the degradation of MSH results in further MSH level decline, creating more inflammation. MARCoNS live in the deep nasal passages and are common in all biotoxin illnesses.
